Ashurst village and the station
Ashurst New Forest station stands on Lyndhurst Road, SO40 7AA, and is managed by South Western Railway. The station is also the starting point for the National Park Authority's Ashurst Stroll. For a day combining the village with nearby attractions, there are three separate arrival points to keep in mind: the station, Longdown Activity Farm and New Forest Wildlife Park. The two attractions have different entrances and postcodes, and both are reached from Deerleap Lane.
A woodland walk from Ashurst
The Ashurst Stroll links the railway station with Churchplace Inclosure, Ashurst Wood and views over Longwater Lawn before returning to the village. Churchplace Inclosure was established in 1810; the National Park Authority describes predominantly oak and beech woodland, with grassy rides running between the trees. Ashurst Wood is open pasture woodland. Farther along the walk, the Ashurst Lodge access road passes ancient oaks. The published route links these landscapes in one circuit from the station.
Road crossings on the Ashurst Stroll
The walk includes two A35 crossings: one where the Ashurst Lodge access road meets the main road, and another at a pedestrian island just beyond the campsite entrance. Between them, the route follows the roadside footpath and cycle route. Woodland tracks and gateways can be muddy, so the route is not entirely paved. The authority's map is useful for following the crossings in sequence and finding the return to the station or village.
Longdown Activity Farm
Longdown Activity Farm gives its address as Ashurst, near Southampton, SO40 7EH, at the edge of the New Forest National Park. Its walking directions from Ashurst place the farm on Deerleap Lane, just past the church; the directions for drivers use brown tourist signs and the farm's postcode. New Forest Wildlife Park is a separate destination on the same lane. Save both places individually if visiting them on the same day.
New Forest Wildlife Park
New Forest Wildlife Park is on Deerleap Lane at Longdown, near Ashurst, SO40 4UH. The park's road directions leave the A35 between Southampton and Lyndhurst, and its visitor information lists an on-site car park. The operator recommends entering the full address into navigation: a postcode-only search may produce a less direct route. This is particularly useful when approaching from outside the area, as both the farm and wildlife park appear under the wider Ashurst area.
Station parking and the Deerleap Lane approach
National Rail lists a station car park, and the wildlife park has parking at its own visitor site. If part of the day involves walking from Ashurst towards the attractions, the important local detail is Deerleap Lane: both attraction operators describe a lane without designated pavements or footpaths, and the farm explicitly asks walkers and cyclists to take care. Factor that into plans involving children, luggage or pushchairs instead of judging the walk solely by distance.
